Client: Brandywine Health Foundation
When facing a major anniversary, many organizations want to create either a new logo or a variation of their current logo to mark the occasion. This can be a challenge since the organization already has an investment in its brand; messing with it can be tricky as stakeholders need to continue to recognize the visual identity. Changing to something very different can make this difficult, and yet small tweaks may appear insignificant. Additionally, after the anniversary year is over, returning to the original logo can be an uneasy transition.
The Brandywine Health Foundation is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and came to us with just this predicament. In 2006 we designed their logo and now the question was what to do to mark this anniversary year. There was a lot of discussion about whether to include a tag line, whether to change the colors, alter the icon, or come up with something totally different. The solution, as you can see, turned out to be remarkably simple and effective: wonderfully, the “I” and the “O” in the word “FOUNDATION” look an awful lot like the numerals “1” and “0” so we turned them in to a “10”, added the word “Years” and highlighted it by making it orange, a third color. I love it when typography can be so clever!
And here’s a really fun way to see the logo: on a cake! This cake was served at a 10th anniversary thank you party for those most closely connected to the foundation – donors, grantees, volunteers, government officials, school board members, Board members, etc…
